About Ouma Benard

I am a seasoned teacher of English / Literature with tested and proven pedagogical skills to assist high school students perform exceptionally well in examinations.

My lessons are engaging, enjoyable and highly informative.

Apart from having taught English in various schools in Kenya and attained impressive performance in KCSE examinations, I have also been engaged as a content developer and TV teacher on Edu TV Kenya, which is run by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD).

TEACHING AT KICD

On the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, learning was paralyzed throughout the country as all schools were closed and both students and teachers had to go home for an extraordinarily long holiday.

During the long COVID-19 break, I was engaged by Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) to teach English on Edu TV. I also got an opportunity to facilitate Literary discussion on Edu TV with my guest being Henry Ole Kulet, the author of the novel, 'Blossoms of the Savannah' in Author's Show, a program that ran throughout the Covid break.

Teaching at KICD gave me an opportunity to interact with teachers from top national schools such as Alliance High School, The Kenya High School, Pangani Girls, just to mention a few.

Interacting with these great teachers and preparing lessons together with them sharpened my teaching skills even further.

What more, content creation at KICD was a vigorous process that involved serious editing and counter checking before being cleared to get to studio and record a lesson. To date, I lack words to thank KICD for allowing me to be part of this great and rare experience.

EDUCARE FOUNDATION

Within the same period of the long Covid vacation, Babu Owino who was the Embakasi East MP had started teaching Mathematics and Chemistry on his Facebook channel. Being a youthful leader with great passion for education, he thought it wise to use his Facebook channel to help students, especially the 2020 KCSE candidates.

Along the way, he saw the need to involve other teachers to have all the subjects covered. Keen on results as he was, he was looking for the best teachers that could be found on the various subject areas. This is how Educare Foundation was born and I was invited to teach English and Literature. Here, I also interacted with great teachers who were also authors and examiners in their various subjects.

THE MAGIC OF ONLINE EDUCATION

Through the few lessons that I uploaded on YouTube, I have interacted with students from all over the world. This broadened my perspective. I realised that I had a skill that should not be confined to a physical classroom.

From my experience as a classroom teacher, I saw a big gap that could be filled by taking content online; content that students can interact with at their own convenience and gain maximumly from the experience.

Since I've been getting requests from students and teachers to share my knowledge widely, I have decided to do exactly that. I want to be reachable at the click of a button to any student or teacher who would like to engage with my products and services, and most importantly, make quality content available to many who would have missed out had I not chosen to get online.
